I am so thrilled to share that I landed my first paying journalism gig today!
While during the process of writing a food book, I was advised to get my name out there by applying for a columnist position in the local paper.
Well this was way more than I bargained for as I just wanted to write my book. But I thought to myself, I should try and do whatever it took to get my name and brand out into the public eye no matter how intimidating or challenging it may be.
So I final edited a piece I had been working on for the past week and a half and printed the final copy. Off I headed downtown.
I went into that interview empowered, scared to death, exhilarated, nervous, and hopeful for the future.
Within five minutes, I landed a monthly paying gig with my very own column!
The column will feature my photo along with a topic of my choice once a month. It will focus on local food reviews, recipes and all that makes Winona Lake, IN an exciting vacation destination spot.
I left feeling empowered as this dream of mine was the culmination of a year long personal struggle. I fought back against a hard time in my life and decided to do more, to take charge of my life and go after my dreams.
And today I did just that.
